About Us
Our Story
Plowing furrows in his family's carpet with his little tractors, even from square one, Erich has always been stuck on farming. Son of a large animal veterinarian, he developed his love for farm experience and opportunity. His favorite things to do are to spend time with his family and church family, garden, research new farm techniques, and drive old trucks. His wife Andrea grew up in a rural community and has an interest in art and tinkering. She has always dreamed of living out The Swiss Family Robinson and is preparing for that by enjoying the beauty and simplicity of living the homestead life in the meantime. We have three wonderful children who love being outside, meeting local families, reading, and cracking jokes.
The word ‘Handbreadth’ may be a mouthful, but to us it is a reminder that our life is short, as Psalm 39:5 explains it. We want farming to be something that brings us back to our greater meaning in life, not something that takes us away from it. On our farm we see the beautiful green peppers and think about how great God is; we see our customers and want to be an encouragement to them; our animals and vegetables remind us that we were called to steward God’s creation - we want to do that well. We pray that when we plant and water seeds (metaphorically speaking), God will cause them to grow and flourish so that we can be part of the wonderful story He is unfolding.
